Those of you who frequent the Quay will know what an exceptional chef Sam is and the perfect selection for this role! We are excited to continue to see Sam go from strength to strength as he steps into the next level of leadership with us. Here’s a little bit about Sam and how important he has been since day one in shaping the Quay…
Sam has been a part of the Quay team since opening night. A Whangarei local, Sam went down to school in Auckland and came back and worked in a small fine dining restaurant where he learnt all the awesome basics as an apprentice. “I moved through and did everything, front of house, kitchen hand and ended up being acting head chef.” Sam worked at several other restaurants before finding his home here at the Quay.
“From day one I’ve loved working at the Quay. I wanted to create a place for Whangarei to be proud of, to showcase our local produce and talent.”
“The thing that is awesome about working for the Jetson group is the amazing support network. Lloyd has often sent me to the Bay of Plenty to work with the Head Chef there Shane to collaborate and keep ideas fresh in the company. After lock down I was lucky enough to have Craig Estick here to mentor me through a difficult period. He is an extremely motivational and inspirational executive Chef to work with.”
Sam is super excited about stepping into this role and looks forward to continuing to bring you the incredible food the Quay is renowned for.
